Bed Sills & Crossmembers There are basically 3 bed crossmembers on the 53-56 Ford F100 truck with short bed. There is a unique crossmember in the front of the bed. In the middle of the bed, there are 2 identical crossmembers that mount to the frame where the arch in the frame is. The center crossmembers are mounted 180 degrees to each other because of the arch. You'll figure it out when you put them on the frame. There is a back crossmember that we call a rear sill because it is the piece that you see underneath the tailgate. It also has 2 mounting areas built into it that bolt to the F100 frame. 8 flat rubber pieces are placed nder each of the 8 places where the crossmembers and rear sill come into contact with the frame.
