Borg Warner or Tremec T-5There are a number of 5 and 6 speed Tremec transmissions on the market that you can put in your Ford Truck. One of the most common is the Borg Warner T-5 transmission that was so well abused by Mustangers. Transmissions Technologies Corporation (Tremec) bought the rights to the T-5 transmission from Borg Warner. The T-5 is a light duty transmission that works well for easy driving and occassional hard driving. Dropping the clutch at every other light is a bad idea!!!! There are some companies out there producing aftermarket upgraded internal parts: Hardened input shafts and more....The main problem with installing one in a truck is the shifter location. It is not movable from front to back, as some of the other Tremec Tranny's are. The shifter could easily end up under your bench seat. Tremec T-45Another common Mustang Transmission, the Tremec T-45 is another light duty 5 speed transmission. You can beat on it a little as well, though it's still not that tough. This Tremec has the same one spot shifter location problem as the T-5. TKO 500 and TKO 600One of the best 5 speeds on the market for both taking abuse and ease of installation is the Tremec TKO-500 and the TKO-600. The number 500 or 600 refers to the general torque capacity in foot-pounds. If you want a tough Tremec transmission, this is the one. Plus, All of the TKO's have 3 main shifter positions from front to back. This allows you to move the shifter about 7 inches from the bellhousing, 12 inches from the bellhousing in the middle position or the back shifter position, which may be too far for trucks. Keep in mind that there is a conversion kit to move the shifter location. There are several gear ratios available, so consult a dealer that knows what they're talking about if you're not sure. TR-3550The Tremec TR-3550 5 speed is no longer available and was replaced with the TKO line of transmissions. Tremec T-56If you're looking for the top 6 speed transmission, the Tremec T56 should be your choice. There are a number of different versions of the T-56 that fit different applications. This is the transmission that made it in Corvettes, Vipers, Mustangs and other super cars. The Tremec T56 has a few shifter positions available, though it requires a different tail section be used, or order it with the one you need on it.
